False alarms (smoke alarms) can be quite annoying especially while sleeping. There are multiple reasons why a smoke alarm goes into false alarms such as; smoke from the cooking, dusty environment and malfunctioning unit. There are troubleshooting steps to determine if the problem is fixable or not.
When you have multiple interconnected fire alarms either hardwired or wirelessly, you need to find the initiating device by checking each fire alarm. You will see a red LED light on the initiating fire alarm. You have to press the hush button on the initiating unit to silence all other connected smoke alarms. Hushing other units will not stop the alarm in the system. Pressing the hush button provides temporary desensitization on the unit. The desensitization will only last for 8 minutes. After 8 minutes, the unit will reset itself and go into an alarm again if the smoke particles still exist in the environment. Repeat the hush feature until the air clears out. If you cannot hush a unit, this could be a result of dense smoke existence in the environment.
